A while ago I was a bit excited to hear on internet <三輪車上的小姐>. Tried to share it with a few friends but none found it interesting. Can't blame them. They're a bit young for that. This song is very rarely heard nowadays compared with other songs composed by the same songwriter 陳歌辛(1914-1961), like <玫瑰玫瑰我爱你>, <永遠的微笑>, <夜上海>, and <花樣的年華>. Most of them were composed in the early to mid 40s, before I was born. Somehow they've appealed to me, just like earlier Western popular hits or Western classical music. Many of Chen's songs have that distinctive style reminiscent of a modern and perhaps a bit decadent Shanghai of the 30s and 40s as portrayed in many books and movies. Chen was talented and wrote simple, cute and melodious but easy to remember tunes. He stayed back in Mainland after 1948 and perished in one of those political movements.
