as years go by, each person becomes more unique and there are fewer and fewer people around to share any common experience, memory, or emotions. no wonder older people are lonlier.
one and a half years ago i went to a christian retreat in dallas. the first such retreat i had gone to while in college was also in dallas.
most participants were college students just like the ones i had gone to when i was a student. young people sure had more in common. they talked and talked, with excitement and laughter.
those who were not students, including myself, all had less to say, partly because they were more reserved, less open, but most of all, they had no people to talk to that had common experience, memory or interest.
i was young like them before but wasn't really aware of all the good things that accompany being young. and i think those students were just like me when i was young.
